Common Questions
What ages are the teen courses for?
30aKidz teen courses are for ages 12 to 18. Courses run in small groups over four weeks. Ages listed on each course are recommendations based on typical readiness. Parents make the final call on fit. Students as young as 10 may attend with parental and instructor approval.
What does a teen course look like?
Teen courses run four weekly sessions. The first three run one hour, and the last runs two hours, five contact hours in total. What happens in that last session depends on the course: a position presented and defended, or a closing discussion. Each course card states its own format. There are no prerequisites. Start with any course.
Do students need prior experience?
No. Courses are built for learners who are new to the subject, and each listing notes any recommended background. Small groups let the instructor meet every teen where they are.
Are the courses drop-off?
Yes. Teens arrive, focus, and work in the group. Each course card says what that course ends with.
Where do courses meet?
Locations vary by term. We run courses at venues and community partner spaces along 30A. The specific address for your course is on the course info flyer and in your enrollment confirmation email, so you will always have it in writing before the first session.
Do teens need a laptop?
No. Our current courses need no laptop.
How long are the courses?
Four weekly sessions. Sessions one through three are one hour each, and session four runs two hours. That is five contact hours per course.
How long is the whole program?
There is no fixed end date. Teens take the courses that fit them, one at a time. Every course your teen finishes earns a certificate and a completion record we provide for your portfolio or records, and your teen can stop at any point and keeps everything already earned.
What if we miss a class?
Life happens. If your teen misses a session, we email that session's materials to you, or your teen can pick them up at the next session.
Can my teen take more than one course?
Yes. Each teen course is its own session, and a teen can take two in the same term.
Are programs a good fit for homeschool students?
Yes. 30aKidz is built with homeschool, hybrid, and alternative learners in mind. Small groups, substantive discussion, and close reading work especially well for self-directed families.
What if my teen is shy or unsure about the subject?
That's exactly who many of these courses are for. Small groups mean every teen gets heard, supported, and paced into the work. Prior comfort is not required.
Can we use Step Up or PEP funds?
Yes. 30aKidz is an approved Step Up For Students provider, listed in the EMA Marketplace. If your family uses a Florida Step Up for Students scholarship, you reserve funds for the course in your EMA account, under Find Providers, and we confirm the enrollment once the reservation appears. Our teen courses are structured educational enrichment designed by an educator. We send you the steps to reserve, and if you need help along the way, reach out and we will walk you through it.
See how Step Up works at 30aKidzHow do we sign up for a course?
Enrollment opens per term. For now, join the interest list and tell us which courses your teen wants. We email everyone on the list when the next term and schedule are announced, and we walk you through enrollment from there.
What if we need to cancel?
Withdraw before the first session and you get a full refund. An out-of-pocket refund goes back to the card used for the purchase. A refund on a scholarship seat goes back to Step Up For Students and is credited to your student's scholarship account, not to you. Once a course starts, tuition is final.
Read the full policyDo I pay on your site or on Step Up?
It depends on your path. If you pay directly, we email you an itemized invoice you settle by bank transfer (lowest fee) or card. If you use a Step Up scholarship, you reserve funds in your EMA account under Find Providers, and we confirm the enrollment once the reservation appears.
What if I want to pay out-of-pocket instead?
That works. Choose the direct-pay path at enrollment and we send you the itemized invoice, payable by bank transfer or card. The Step Up scholarship is optional.
What do you need from us to join the interest list?
Parent contact info, your student's first name and age, and the courses you are interested in. Preferred day and time are optional but they help us schedule.
